Florida [US], Feb 21 (ANI): World number one Naomi Osaka suffered a second-round ouster from the Dubai Tennis Championships leaving her supporters in disappointment but fellow players Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep have asked for patience from the tennis star's fans.
Kvitova and Simona advocated that Japanese young tennis sensation needs time to adjust to her rising profile.
"She is kind of shy person, probably like me at the time. It was really difficult for me, that time, for sure. I totally understand Naomi," WTA quoted Kvitova, as saying.
The Czech veteran player reflected on her path on the tennis court and said that it took her almost a year to adjust to the spotlight.
"It took me a while, for sure, then three years to win another Grand Slam. I was still in the Top 10. I was still fighting, but in the big stages, I couldn't just do it. On the other hand, it's about experiences and coming to the court knowing that you are the favourite of every match. Every playe
r on the other side wants to beat you. She's No.1, Grand Slam winner, everyone just wants to beat her. That's how the players are thinking. I do remember when I was young, I totally had the same mindset. That's how it is," she said.
Simona similarly sympathised with Osaka's situation addressing that Japan has high hopes from her and it takes time for a tennis star to adjust to the spotlight.
"From my opinion, the pressure had to be bigger for her after the US Open because that was the bigger surprise than now. Now, she's played so well to win two Grand Slams and be world number one. Everybody expects her to win all of her matches right now because she's the best," Simona said.
Recently, Osaka ended her partnership with coach Sacha Bajin who had taken up the role in the year 2017.
The duo experienced immediate success as Osaka won her firstWTAtitle at the BNP Paribas Open, last March, following which she went on to clinch the 2018 US Open title.
Last month, Osaka bagged her second Grand Slam title when she lifted the 2019 Australian Open trophy. (ANI)
