Militants to stop shelling of Israel

Australian News.Net
Saturday 21st November, 2009

The militant group Hamas has agreed with other Palestinian militants to stop firing rockets into Israel.

Hamas officials, while insisting rockets will continue to be fired from the Gaza Strip if Israel makes another incursion, have also stated they want to prevent retaliatory attacks by Israel and build stability for a Palestinian state.

Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli military offensive in Gaza last December, was supposed to put a stop to the attacks.

While Hamas has observed a ceasefire for months, other Hamas-connected militants have carried out sporadic cross-border rocket attacks, killing some Israelis.
