US to Georgia aid package announced

Australian News.Net
Wednesday 3rd September, 2008

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has announced a US$1 billion aid package for Georgia.

To help Georgia after its conflict with Russia, Ms Rice said most of the money would be delivered before the end of the year.

She said the money would assist in resolving Georgia's pressing humanitarian needs and facilitate its economic reconstruction.

She insisted the aid would be for civilian purposes only

Washington has already provided roughly US$30 million in emergency humanitarian aid to the former Soviet republic since the conflict flared up in early August.

US to Georgia aid package announced

I BELIEVE OBAMA MADE A MISTAKE BY NOT PICKING HILLARY FOR HIS V.P. SLOT. HILLARY AND BILL HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE. BILL IS ONE OF THE ONLY PRESIDENTS, IF NOT THE ONLY, THAT MADE MAJOR GAINS IN THE U.S. ECONOMY THAT BUSH AND MCCAIN HAVE DRIVEN INTO THE GROUND

MCCAIN AND PALIN ARE PRO-LIFE AND WANT TO OVER TURN ROE VS WADE. I HAD DONE A REVIEW ON THE ISSUE OF A WOMAN’S RIGHT TO ABORT HER CHILD IN THE EARLY PHASE OF HER PREGNACY WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE. I HAD TO GIVE THIS REVIEW IN A CLASS FULL OF WOMEN AND GOT NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS. I FOUND THAT WHEN THE LAW TAKES A STEP BACKWARDS BY MAKING ABORTIONS ILLEGAL, WOMEN SEEK OTHER UNSAFE WAYS TO ABORT THEIR CHILD. THEY GO TO A BLACK MARKET DOCTOR IN A OFFICE OR APARTMENT WHERE THIS SO CALLED DOCTOR PERFORMS AN UNSAFE AND ILLEGAL ABORTION. WOMEN AT TIMES BLEED TO DEATH BECAUSE OF THESE UNSAFE AND ILLEGAL ABORTIONS, BUT WOMEN STILL WENT TO THESE DOCTORS. IN SOME CASES WOMEN USED CLOTH HANGERS TO ABORT THEIR UNWANTED CHILD. IN THE FIVE BOOKS THAT I READ ON ABORTION AND WOMEN’S RIGHTS TO ABORT THEIR CHILD, THE LAW DID NOT STOP ILLEGAL ABORTIONS, BUT THE LAW DID CAUSE WOMEN TO DIE FROM UNSAFE METHODS USED TO ABORT THEIR UNWANTED CHILD AT ANY COST.

THE IRAQ WAR BASED ON BUSH’S INTERPATATION ON INTELLIGENCE THAT SUDDAN HAD WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUTION SEEM TO BE SELF SERVING IN NATURE. AS THE WAR PROCEEDED, IT BECAME KNOWN TO U.S. CITIZENS THAT THEY WERE MISLEAD BY BUSH AND MCCAIN’S REPORTS WHICH SUPPORTED THE WAR. MCCAIN WANTED TO STAY IN IRAQ FOR EVER, BUT CLAIMS HE HAS CHANGED HIS MIND AGAIN. OBAMA DID NOT SUPPORT THE IRAQ WAR FROM DAY ONE, AND HE WANTED TROOPS OUT IN 16 MONTHS, UNLIKE MCCAIN.

HAS BUSH’S PLANS SUPPORTED BY MCCAIN DONE ANYTHING TO IMPROVE OUR ECONOMY? WE ARE SPENDING MONEY IN THE IRAQ WAR AT 10.3 BILLION DOLLARS A MONTH. THE U.S. PAYS 2 BILLION DOLLARS A MONTH IN THE FORGOTTEN TERRIORIST WAR IN AFGANISTAN. THE U.S. IS CONSIDERING SENDING FINANCIAL HELP TO GEOGRIA AND IRAQ TO HELP THEM REBUILD THESE COUNTRIES. IRAQ WILL HAVE 80 BILLION DOLLARS IN OIL REVENUES THIS YEAR ALONE. CHINA HAS BROKERED A PLAN WITH IRAQ FOR 3 BILLION DOLLARS. CHINA ALSO BROKERED A DEAL WITH CANADA TO HELP BUILD A CANADIAN OIL PIPE LINE. CHINA HAS BROKERED PLANS TO DRILL ALL AROUND S. AMERICA.

RUSSIA HAS GROWN TO THE 2ND LARGEST OIL PRODUCER IN THE WORLD. THEY ALSO HAVE NATURAL GAS WHICH THEY SELL TO THE E.U. ALONG WITH THEIR OIL. THIS TIES THE E.U.'s HANDS TO DEAL AGAINST RUSSIA’S INVASION OF GEORGIA WITH ANY REAL FORCE. THEN THERE ARE RUMORS LIKE STUDIO B INTERVIEW THAT CLAIMED GEORGIA FIRED FIRST ON S. OSSETIA. IF THIS IS SO, WOULDN’T THE RESPONSE TO RUSSIA BEEN JUST A LITTLE LESS AGRESSIVE BY MCCAIN. I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT NO MATTER WHO FIRED FIRST THAT RUSSIA’S GOAL WAS TO BREAK UP GEORGIA, SO IT COULD NOT JOIN THE U.N. OR NATO.

RUSSIA’S PRESIDENT SEEMS TO HAVE LIMITED POWER BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT PUTIN IS CONTROLLING THE MILITARY FORCES IN GEORGIA PER HIS PLANS. THEIR NEW FOUND PROSPERIT FROM OIL AND GAS REVENUES SEEMS TO HAVE MADE THE OLD BEAR MORE AGGRESSIVE WHEN IT DEALS WITH THESE COUNTRIES THAT WERE ONCE PART OF THE SOVIET UNION.

Nicaragua Recognizes South Ossetia, Abkazia

(RTTNews) - Daniel Ortega, the left-leaning President of Nicaragua, announced Wednesday that his country recognizes the independence of the two breakaway Georgian provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

“The government of Nicaragua recognizes the independence of the republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and we fully agree with the Russian government’s position that that conflict may end through dialogue with European countries," sarecognises id President Daniel Ortega in a speech.With Ortega’s announcement on Thursday, Nicaragua became the second country to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia after Russia. Last week, Russia had recoganized the independence of the breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkazia, despite strong objections from the Western countries.
Russia responded to a Georgian effort to annex the breakaway region of South Ossetia by force by launching a massive counter-attack and by occupying large parts of Georgian territory.

A view from Russia

The heads of the CSTO security councils have also backed Russia’s measures, just like the SCO members did earlier... There is no doubt that the Georgians deliberately started the war," he security bloc, seen as a counterweight to NATO’s influence in Eurasia, comprises China, Russia, and four Central Asian states - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

China and the other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) voiced their support last month for Russia’s actions in regard to Georgia and South Ossetia following the recent conflict.
According to information provided last month by the Russian General Staff, since 2005, Georgian tank numbers increased from 98 to 183, armored vehicles from 83 to 134, artillery weapons from 96 to 238, combat helicopters from three to nine, and warplanes from seven to nine.
“We cannot but be concerned that humanitarian aid to Georgia is delivered by NATO warships equipped with modern weapons,"

Cheney gives `em a piece of his mind...
:cool:
Cheney Condemns Russia Over War
Thursday, Sep. 04, 2008 —Vice President Dick Cheney has condemned Russia for what he says is an “illegitimate, unilateral attempt” to change Georgia’s borders by force.

]
Cheney also assured Georgia’s president that the United States supports the South Caucasus nation’s efforts to join NATO. The U.S. vice president made the comments Thursday during a closely watched trip to Georgia, which fought a short war with Russia last month.

Cheney promised U.S. support to rebuild Georgia and urged the “free world” to rally in support of the ex-Soviet republic.

President Mikhail Saakashvili says Georgia is committed to a peaceful resolution of its disputes with breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Russia has recognized both as independent nations.

Who Started the War in Georgia?
Wednesday, Sep. 03, 2008 - Nothing spawns conspiracy theories like war in a remote place. The latest one comes from a singularly well-placed source.

]
In an interview with CNN last week, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin accused the U.S. of orchestrating the war in Georgia in order to benefit the candidacy of John McCain. He claimed that “U.S. citizens were indeed in the area of conflict” and that “the only one who can give such orders is their leader." Without endorsing Putin’s claim, many European officials reportedly do harbor suspicions that there was more American involvement in the crisis than previously reported. That may been one reason, some European political analysts say, why European Union leaders this week failed to impose concrete sanctions on Moscow for its Georgian adventure.

Moscow’s recriminations, amplified in the echo chamber of bloggers with a Manichean view of world politics, are sure to boom further with the arrival tomorrow in Tbilisi of U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney. A frequent advocate of robust U.S. intervention, Cheney is expected to highlight Georgia’s role as a standard-bearer for the free world while announcing a new $1 billion U.S. aid package to help rebuild the war-damaged country. His presence is almost certain to be linked to that of U.S. warships in the Black Sea, to which Putin has already promised a “calm” response. Yet while many questions remain unanswered about why Georgia embarked on such a suicidal war, the U.S. role in particular seems in danger of being exaggerated. No evidence has yet been uncovered, by Putin or anyone else, that the U.S. or U.S. advisers triggered the conflict.

That is not to say, however, that Washington is a disinterested party, since it has maintained especially close relations with the government of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. Saakashvili graduated from Columbia University School of Law and worked briefly for a New York city law firm before taking up opposition politics back home in the 1990s. As has been widely reported, some of the groups that helped organize the 2003 Rose Revolution that ousted his predecessor, Eduard Shevardnadze, received funding from the U.S. government. Since Saakashvili took office in 2004, his government has continued to receive strong U.S. funding, and the Georgian military was rebuilt with the help of U.S. defense aid and training from American military advisors. (Georgia also sent 2,000 men to fight alongside the U.S. in Iraq.) Several U.S. citizens, including Daniel Kunin, the son of former Vermont Governor Madeleine Kunin, have worked as senior aides to Saakashvili’s administration. Randy Scheunemann, a senior advisor to Republican presidential candidate John McCain, was a lobbyist for Georgia until earlier this year . And the Georgian president has friends in high circles in the U.S., including Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden and McCain himself.
