Nicole Kidman-Hugh Jackman movie to boost tourism Down Under
Australian News.Net Sunday 15th June, 2008 (ANI)
Melbourne, June 15 : A movie starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman is set to be the focus of a crucial new tourism campaign in Australia.
The Federal Government will use Baz Luhrmann's upcoming film 'Australia' as an opportunity to showcase the wonder and beauty of the nation to the rest of the world.
Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson revealed that Tourism Australia was developing the marketing campaign, which will include fact sheets, imagery, movie maps, and location guides.
"This movie will potentially be seen by tens of millions of people, and it will bring to life little-known aspects of Australia's extraordinary natural environment, history, and indigenous culture,'' News.com.au quoted Ferguson, as saying.
Australia, due for release on November 13, is expected to be released in 70 countries.
"Key markets for the release are aligned to those markets from which Australia generates most visitors, including the United States, Australia and New Zealand, Japan, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France and Italy,'' Ferguson said.
"The movie has the capacity to redefine the way Australians and the rest of the world see Australia as a destination, and it is up to all of us to capture that potential for the Australian tourism industry,'' he added.
In the film, Kidman plays an English aristocrat in the 1930s, who comes to northern Australia to sell a cattle property the size of Belgium.
She becomes caught in the bombing of Darwin during World War II with a drover played by Jackman. Email this story to a friend

I am in the process of trying to relocate to Australia. Everybody here wants to go now. I meet people everyday who envy me my trip. I have wanted to go since I saw Gregory Peck in “On the Beach”. I’ve had this planned for a long time, since the 1960’s. Don’t even know if the scenery was filmed there. Ha. Doesn’t matter. Can’t wait. Love the friendly people.
