Lebanese rivals reach agreement
Australian News.Net Thursday 15th May, 2008
Arab League mediators say a peace deal has been reached between the Lebanese government and the Hezbollah-led opposition.
Talks on ending the 18-month political conflict will continue in Qatar on Friday.
Both parties have agreed to refrain from the use of weapons or violence until the Lebanese government, led by Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, and Hezbollah, find ways to share power in the cabinet and create a new parliamentary election law.
Shortly after the deal was announced, Hezbollah removed roadblocks and opened the roads to Beirut's airport.
On Wednesday the Lebanese cabinet cancelled two measures that lead to heavy fighting last week, killing at least 65 and leaving 200 people injured.
