NATO Intercepts Iranian Missile Over Turkey; US Orders Adana Consulate Evacuation

A ballistic missile launched from Iran was intercepted by NATO air defense systems after entering Turkish airspace, Turkey's Defense Ministry said in a statement on March 9.

No casualties have been reported.

"We once again emphasize that all necessary measures will be taken decisively and without hesitation against any threat directed at our countrys territory and airspace,"the statement said.

Separately on March 9, the US Department of State ordered nonemergency staff and family members to leave the US Consulate General in the city of Adana in southern Turkey due to security risks.

Americans in southeast Turkey have beenstrongly encouraged to depart the regionimmediately.
